Modulational instability in fiber systems with periodic loss compensation and dispersion management

2003

In this paper we study modulational instability in a Kerr fiber taking into account the combined effects of periodic power variations and dispersion management. It is shown that periodic dispersion management and periodic amplification produce nonconventional MI sidebands which are essentially independent of each other. In addition, we show that the amplifier spontaneous emission noise tends to inhibit the growth of sidebands, for a sufficiently long propagation distance.

Experimental demonstration of 160-GHz densely dispersion-managed soliton transmission in a single channel over 896 km of commercial fibers

2003

International audience; We experimentally demonstrate the first 160-GHz densely dispersion-managed soliton transmission in a single channel at 1550 nm over nearly 900 km using commercially available non-zero dispersion-shifted fibers. This performance has been achieved by using a 16 km-long recirculating loop configuration and an appropriate design of the dispersion map.

Amplified Spontaneous Emission Properties of Solution Processed CsPbBr3 Perovskite Thin Films

2017

Metal halide perovskites are currently emerging as highly promising optoelectronic materials. It has been recently demonstrated that fully inorganic solution processed CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films show good electroluminescence properties combined with high thermal stability. In this work, we investigate in details the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) properties of CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films, as a function of the temperature and the trap density, modified by changing the CsBr-PbBr2 precursor concentration. ASE is observed in samples from both CsBr-rich solution (low trap density) and equimolar solution (higher trap density), up to about 150 K, with a minimum threshold of 26 and 29 mu…

Flaticon pulses in optical fibers

2014

International audience; We experimentally investigate the nonlinear reshaping of a continuous wave which leads to chirp-free and flat-top intense pulses or flaticons exhibiting strong temporal oscillations at their edges and a stable self-similar expansion upon propagation of their central region.

Spectral incoherent solitons

2009

Solitons have been usually considered as inherently coherent localized structures and the discovery of incoherent optical solitons has represented a significant progress [1]. As occurs for standard coherent solitons, incoherent solitons are characterized by a confinement of the field in the spatial or in the temporal domain. We introduce here a novel type of incoherent solitons that are neither spatial nor temporal, i.e., the incoherent field does not exhibit any confinement in the spatiotemporal domain; however, the uncorrelated frequency components that constitute the incoherent field exhibit a localized soliton behavior in the frequency domain [2].

Solid state solvation effect and reduced amplified spontaneous emission threshold value of glass forming DCM derivative in PMMA films

2015

Abstract Molecule crystallization is one of the limitations for obtaining high-gain organic laser systems. One of the examples is well known red laser dye 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM). The lowest threshold value of amplified spontaneous emission was achieved by doping 2 wt% of DCM molecule in tris-(8-hydroxy quinoline) aluminum (Alq3) matrix. Further increase of the DCM dye concentration makes the system less efficient as its threshold value increases. It is due to large intermolecular interaction, which induces photoluminescence quenching. Compounds with reduced intermolecular interaction could be prospective in organic laser systems due to higher …

Studies towards a directional polychromatic sodium laser guide star

2018

In this work we discuss a mechanism for generation of a coherent source of light from the mesosphere as a new concept of directional laser guide star. In contrast to the near-isotropic spontaneous emission, nonlinear processes in atomic vapors like amplified spontaneous emission can yield highly directional emission in the forward and backward directions. Along with directional emission, excited sodium atoms also radiate at different wavelength creating a polychromatic laser guide star (PLGS). If feasible, a directional PLGS would provide a net gain in the return flux of several orders of magnitude compared to traditional LGS schemes, making possible laser-guided tip/tilt-correction in adap…
